Casting

Casting Policy

Updated: October 2025

Casting is a complex and thoughtful process. At Center Theater Company (CTC), we do not accept parental complaints about casting decisions. When a parent challenges a casting choice, they are, in effect, suggesting that another child should not have been given the role they received. This is unfair to the children and to the process.

How Casting Works Across Programs

  • Early Entertainers & Jr. Company: Larger roles are rotated more frequently to give many students the opportunity to grow.
  • Young Company: Effort, ability, and audition performance begin to play a stronger role in casting decisions.
  • Teen Company: Preparation and the ability to fully inhabit a role weigh most heavily in casting.

The Value of Ensemble

It is not a platitude when we say the ensemble is one of the most important parts of the show. Ensemble members often have the most stage time, the majority of the singing and dancing, and play a critical role in the overall success of a production.

Respect for the Casting Process

We recognize that casting can stir intense emotions. Disappointment is natural, but within a few weeks most students are simply happy to be in class, working together on the show. This is a normal and important part of the theater experience.

Zero Tolerance for Disrespect

We ask that all families respect the CTC team and the decisions made in casting. If a parent attacks or disparages a staff member about casting, your family may be asked not to return to CTC.

Questions about rehearsal schedules or program placement (not casting outcomes) can be directed to our front desk.
